THE END IS TRENDING is an RPG about the dangerous power of the Internet and social media juxtaposed with the awesome potential of a connected humanity. Unfathomable powers harness the very technology we rely on to consume, obliterate, or corrupt us.

Built on the tried-and-true Caster System, the engine behind many of Christopher Grey's games including HIGHCASTER, DUNGEONCASTER, and THE GREAT AMERICAN WITCH.

The Algorithm is the Monster. Whether the Internet is hijacked by an elder god or mass consciousness goes haywire, the powers or entities behind the horror use the Internet as their power source.

Reality is Fragile. It is hard to know what is real and what is a simulation. There are glitches in the matrix, timelines are collapsing, and what we see online may be more real than IRL.

The Truth Is Unknowable. Once the scope of the powers are revealed it causes paranoia, psychosis, and mental breaks. The human mind cannot tolerate its own insignificance.

You are playing content creators and influencers who are on the frontline of the streamlife apocalypse. They use their talents and viral abilities to get to the bottom of the cosmological horrors at play and either defend the world or join the legion.

THE DOOMSCROLLER may not know everything that happens, but they do know we don’t know the truth. Their powers of inquisition, speculation, and intellect break down the system and reveal truth.

THE MAIN CHARACTER is the center of their world and they can’t help but to broadcast it. Always in the right, especially when they’re wrong, they seek to monetize every second of their day.

THE NEPO BABY has connections, has access, and has no time for waiting around. Leverage is the name of the game and they can afford to be risky when they have such a perfect safety net.

THE NORMIE has no interest in the Internet beyond watching stand-up or celebrity interviews. Although a normie, they are anything but common. They are critical thinkers that don’t get wrapped up in it all.

THE GLITCH knows the entire universe is an illusion and aims to dial into the true frequency of reality. The world is a sim and the Glitch knows how to hack it. If nothing is real then anything is possible.

THE ACTIVIST knows that social media is not a platform, but a community. It can be weaponized against those that can’t fight back and so must be harnessed to make systemic change.

The game is powered by an adapted version of the Caster System—a fast-paced, narrative-driven engine that uses a mix of polyhedral dice (d4, d6, d8) and the classic d20. It's designed to keep the tension high and the math simple.

Here is the core gameplay loop:

THE ALGORITHM SERVES A THREAT

When the story stalls or a player fails, the GM introduces a Threat (a cryptid, a cosmic horror, a glitch in reality). Threats are ranked by Stages (1-6). To survive, you have to subdue the threat before it escalates.

BUILD YOUR MODIFIER POOL

When you confront a Threat, you build a dynamic pool of dice based on your character's current status:

Stat: Grab the die for your approach (Savvy for smarts, Flex for force, Vibe for social influence).

Talents: Add a d6 for every unique Talent or Hashtag that applies to the situation.

Collab: Have a friend narrate how they help to add their die to your pool.ROLL

FOR ENGAGEMENT

Roll your entire Modifier Pool alongside your d20. The math is simple: Keep the highest die from your pool + the d20.

THE RESULTS

Every roll pushes the story forward. There are no "nothing happens" turns.

1–10: FLOPPED. You fail. The Threat escalates, and you take Harm.
11–19: MID. You succeed, but there is a complication, a cost, or a new danger.
20+: VIRAL. A flawless success. You subdue the Threat Stage.

MANAGE YOUR CLOUT & BURNOUT

As you play, you earn Clout (XP)—even when you Flop, because bad engagement is still engagement. Spend Clout to buy new abilities, unlock Hashtags, or recover from Harm. But be careful: Harm damages your actual Stat dice. If your Vibe takes too much damage, you are Canceled, and that die is removed from the game until you recover.
